Flag Day

It's sometimes easy to forget that people lived, fought and died for our freedom to sit on a couch and do nothing.  No people of any country has ever been more free than in the USA and yet we treat it as a nothing little thing.  Even today, there are women in the world not allowed to go to school, or to drive, or to leave the home without a male relative escorting her.  There are countries where a woman needs 4 witnesses to testify that she was raped.  Her word alone is insufficient.  This week a 15 year old boy was shot in the face and killed by the police in front of his parents so the point was really made, because he spoke out against the government.  Homosexuality is a crime punishable by death.  Slavery is not against the law.

We are not that kind of people.  We never have been.

God Bless America.

  1. Well, except for the slavery part, but we got that worked out.

My wife is Chinese. I lived in China for 3.5 years. I can tell you, things happen in other parts of the world that would leave most of us here slack-jawed in outrage. This is a wonderful place to be, and [insert my libertarian rant here].

By the way, things are looking really good around here! I like the new layout.

  2. Slavery has existed in islam for 1400 years. I'd say America's short experience with it is not much of a comparison. Slavery exists to this day in countries like Saudi Arabia. Americans fought a war and men died to end slavery.
